Who We are

Our Mission

Our mission is to lead others to know and follow Jesus.
The last recorded words of Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel were a clear and compelling mandate: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20). As a church, we make it our aim to make Jesus’ last words our first work, to see the gospel go forth from Lake Asbury to the nations. Our mission statement is a simple summary of the Great Commission, and it drives everything we do.

Our Values

The last recorded words of Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel were a clear and compelling mandate: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20). As a church, we make it our aim to make Jesus’ last words our first work, to see the gospel go forth from Lake Asbury to the nations. Our mission statement is a simple summary of the Great Commission, and it drives everything we do.

We teach the Bible

God’s Word is sufficient for the salvation of the lost and the sanctification of the saved (2 Timothy 3:15-17). Therefore, we are committed to teaching the Bible verse by verse and seeking to obey it by applying it to every area of our lives.

We seek God in prayer

Prayer is our vital means of communication with God, through which we offer thanks, express dependence, and delight in Him (Philippians 4:6-7; Psalm 100:4; Jeremiah 29:12). Therefore, we seek God diligently in prayer, just as Jesus taught (Matthew 6:9-13).

We grow in community

Biblical community is where we encourage one another to grow and find encouragement to persevere in following Jesus (Hebrews 10:24-25). Therefore, we are committed to gathering for worship on Sundays (Acts 20:7) and meeting in small groups during the week for deeper discipleship.

We live generously

God is the creator and owner of all things (Psalm 24:1; 50:10-12) and graciously entrusts us as stewards of His resources. Therefore, we seek to live generously – offering our time (Galatians 6:9-10), using our spiritual gifts (1 Peter 4:10), and giving our wealth (Proverbs 3:9-10) for His glory and the good of others.

We share the gospel

The gospel is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16), and people can only come to faith in Christ if they hear the message of Christ (Romans 10:14-17). Therefore, we are committed to sharing the good news of Christ’s sinless life, substitutionary death, and glorious resurrection, calling all people to repent of their sins and trust in His finished work (Matthew 4:17).

What We Believe

This is how we view God, Jesus, the Bible, man, and many significant aspects of our faith. Firmly rooted in Scripture, our beliefs guide our decisions as a church.

The Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives.

The Trinity

God has existed in relationship with Himself for all eternity. He exists as one substance in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority.

The Father

God is great: He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, Holy. It is in Him that we live, move and exist. God is good. He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises.

The Son

Jesus Christ is completely human but, at the same time, completely God. He is the only plan for bringing people who are far from God back into a right relationship with God. He lived a perfect life, so that He could be a substitution for us in satisfying God’s demands for perfection. He defeated death in His resurrection so that we can have life.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit’s presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides believers into all truth and exalts Christ. He convicts people of their sin, God’s righteousness, and the coming judgment. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and makes us more like Christ.

Eternity

Man was created to exist forever. He will exist either eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is Heaven. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.

Man

The Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives.

Salvation

God has existed in relationship with Himself for all eternity. He exists as one substance in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority.

The Church

The Church is a local community of believers unified through faith in Christ. It is committed to the teachings of Christ and obeying all of His commands, and it seeks to bring the Gospel to the world. The Church works together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ.

What We Believe

All our beliefs are grounded in God’s inerrant, infallible, and inspired Word. These beliefs are firmly held by our elders, deacons, and members in unity for the sake of clarity. At the same time, we are compassionate towards the many who come to Cross Community from different backgrounds and are seeking to grow following Christ.
